I am a Fifth grade teacher. In August, I decided that my students would start blogs this year, yet, here it is November and we still have not gotten to it. I was thinking I was lazy or we just didn’t have enough access to the needed technology. But then I read this post I found on my awesome twitter feed, chock full of the best PLN contributors one could ever hope for. http://langwitches.org/blog/2011/11/26/learning-about-blogs-for-your-students-part-ii-writing/ Silvia is so right. I need to actually do this for myself before I can ask my students to do this. And, as Silvia mentions, you can not blog for the sake of blogging. I need to make this a learning tool for myself… using it for recording and reflection. Heck, I haven’t even read Part I yet! But, here it goes.

Alison,
Welcome to the bloggersphere! I am glad my blog post inspired you to start. As you are going through the process of writing publicly, you will “experience” for yourself how blogging can have an impact on writing, communication and connecting skills. Make sure you are READING blogs too 🙂

Thank you Silvia! I am looking forward to getting better at this… I can only do that with practice, I know. I do love reading blogs (yours being one of my most favorite) but your post has really inspired me to jump in and start my own. I will definitely feel better starting this with my students very soon!
